BAE Systems Unveils new Modular Naval gun System at Euronaval 2026

BAE Systems has unveiled Sea Tridon – its new modular 40mm naval gun system – at Euronaval 2026.
Concept rendering of the Modular 40 mm Family, featuring Sea Tridon C, Sea Tridon and Sea Trinity integrated in a scalable naval air defence configuration.
The Sea Tridon is part of a new scalable family of naval protection solutions, built upon the combat-proven Bofors 40mm system and programmable 3P ammunition, which together provide the ability to engage a wide range of air, surface and shore-based threats.

The family includes the Sea Tridon, Sea Tridon C and Sea Trinity and the Bofors 40 Mk4 Naval Gun. The modular approach allows operators to choose between different levels of sensor integration, fire-control capability and deployment flexibility while maintaining commonality in training, logistics and support.

“The maritime threat landscape is evolving rapidly, creating a growing need for flexible and effective protection solutions,” said Lena Gillström, President of BAE Systems Bofors. “With the Sea Tridon, navies and maritime operators can select the capability level that best meets their operational needs while benefiting from a common platform, proven technology and advanced programmable ammunition.”

The family consists of four solutions:

Sea Tridon
A maritime adaptation of the Tridon concept, combining the Bofors 40mm gun with an integrated electro-optical fire-control system. The solution offers greater operational independence and simplified platform integration.

Seat Tridon C
A containerized version of Sea Tridon designed for rapid installation and deployment on military, government or commercial vessels requiring temporary or mission-specific self-protection capabilities.

Sea Trinity
The most advanced member of the family, combining the Bofors 40 mm gun, programmable 3P ammunition and integrated radar fire control into a complete close-in weapon system (CIWS) designed to counter missiles, drones and other high-speed threats.

Bofors 40Mk4 Naval Gun
A modern, compact and lightweight naval gun system designed for integration with ship combat systems, providing effective protection against both air and surface threats.

At the core of all four solutions is the Bofors 3P programmable ammunition, which can be configured immediately before firing to optimize effects against different target types. The ammunition provides six programmable fuze modes and enables a single ammunition family to engage air, surface and shore-based threats.

The Sea Tridon will be displayed on the BAE Systems stand at Euronaval 2026 (stand E30), where visitors will be able to learn more about the new family and its role in addressing current and future naval protection requirements.
