ASELSAN’s TOLUN P Aviation Munition Tested in Azerbaijan – EXCLUSIVE

Turkey’s ASELSAN has tested its TOLUN P aviation munition in Azerbaijan. The munition is designed to provide high-precision strike capabilities against armored and reinforced concrete targets.

According to “Polygonjournal”, during the test, the TOLUN P munition launched from an “Akıncı” unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) successfully penetrated a 2-meter-thick layer of soil and a 50-centimeter-thick concrete barrier with a precise strike, destroying the target.

Combining deep-penetration and high-precision capabilities, TOLUN P has a strong battlefield effect against armored and concrete-protected targets and is now ready for operational use.

Manufactured by ASELSAN, TOLUN P is a 250-pound smart aviation bomb belonging to the TOLUN product family and equipped with an inertial navigation system (INS) and satellite navigation system (GNSS). Carried by the SADAK 4T carriage system, TOLUN P is designed for use by unmanned aerial vehicles, manned and unmanned combat aircraft. Thanks to its penetrating warhead and specially designed penetrator nose section, it can penetrate 1 meter of reinforced concrete and destroy concrete bunkers, shelters and armored targets. Its high effectiveness against hard targets is ensured by a cockpit-programmable, time-adjustable electronic fuze.

Developed using modern technologies, TOLUN P strikes its target with high precision and minimizes damage to the surrounding environment. Thanks to these capabilities, it can be used reliably and effectively in various operations, including against strategic targets located near civilian settlements.

It should be recalled that the TOLUN munition was first publicly presented in Azerbaijan on February 9, 2024, during President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to military facilities of the Azerbaijani Air Force. At the time, alongside the newly inducted “Akıncı” UAVs, TOLUN munitions intended for these platforms were also displayed.

In October of the same year, ASELSAN CEO Ahmet Akyol officially confirmed the export of the TOLUN munition to Azerbaijan.

It should be noted that the TOLUN P munition currently being tested in Azerbaijan is a new version of the TOLUN family equipped with a penetrating warhead developed for use against armored and reinforced concrete targets.
