As part of an investment programme exceeding US$1.5 billion aimed at expanding Türkiye’s strategic production capacity in the defence industry, MKE is increasing its production capacity for 155 mm artillery shells by 54 times.
According to information provided by MKE to Polygonjournal, 155 mm artillery shells, which constitute one of the key areas of the company’s investment programme, are among the primary means of providing artillery units with firepower on the modern battlefield.
Growing global demand for ammunition, particularly amid the Russia-Ukraine war, has further increased the importance of production capacity in this sector.
The 155 mm shells manufactured by MKE are used in various artillery systems, primarily the company’s FIRTINA, PANTER, GÜRHAN and ATTİLA self-propelled and towed howitzers, providing long-range fire support. By expanding production capacity, MKE aims to help meet the ammunition requirements of the Turkish Armed Forces and strengthen Türkiye’s strategic supply security.
MKE’s 155 mm artillery shell product family comprises seven different models. Featuring different range and operational characteristics, these shells are used in a wide range of applications, from operational missions to personnel training and firing exercises.
The investment programme, being implemented at various production centres, particularly in Kırıkkale, Kırşehir and Samsun, is expected to be completed within this year. Through these investments, MKE aims to strengthen its ammunition production infrastructure and further develop domestic manufacturing and national technological capabilities.
