MKE’s MMT-76 Machine Gun Ready for Helicopter Use

The MMT-76 (Modern Machine Gun), developed by Turkish defence company MKE, has successfully completed air qualification tests for use on helicopters.

According to information provided by MKE to Polygonjournal, the MMT-76 had previously completed 40 different tests in accordance with NATO standards and had been made ready for serial production. During the latest tests, the weapon demonstrated high performance in helicopter vibration simulation, reliability, durability, low- and high-temperature, as well as air-to-ground firing tests, and was approved for use as a door gun on multipurpose helicopters.

Thus, the MMT-76 can be used both as a light machine gun for infantry and as a multipurpose weapon system on helicopter platforms.

It was stated that the MMT-76, with its high reliability, durability and performance under harsh environmental conditions, will enhance the capabilities of Turkish military personnel on the battlefield.

Weighing approximately 8 kilograms and having an effective range of 1,000 metres, the MMT-76 has a sustained rate of fire of 750 rounds per minute. Distinguished by its high firepower and durability, the MMT-76 also stands out for its lighter design compared with equivalent NATO-standard machine guns.

Featuring a gas-piston operating system and a rotating bolt locking mechanism, the machine gun can be effectively used in various environmental and harsh climatic conditions. Its six-position adjustable (telescopic) stock and ergonomic design provide enhanced user comfort. The ammunition for the machine gun is also produced domestically at MKE facilities using local and national capabilities.
