TOLGA and PİRANA Systems Deployed During the TURNAs-2026 Exercise – VIDEO

MKE participated in the TURNAs-2026 exercise, conducting live-fire engagements against aerial and maritime threats using domestically developed defence systems.

According to information provided by MKE to Poliqonjurnal, the 20 mm twin-barrel revolver cannon system of the TOLGA short-range air defence system, developed by the company, was integrated into a warship for the first time. The system opened fire against aerial and maritime targets from the TCG BEYKOZ vessel.

The system successfully destroyed unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and unmanned surface vehicles (USVs).

In addition, the PİRANA loitering unmanned surface vehicle (USV), developed by MKE, was controlled via a Bayraktar TB2 UAV during the exercise and successfully struck and destroyed a surface target.

Capable of firing 3,200 rounds per minute, the 20 mm twin-barrel revolver cannon system stands out with a rate of fire three times higher than those of comparable systems worldwide. Using airburst anti-drone ammunition, the system can engage kamikaze aerial and surface threats at an effective range of 1,000 metres.

The ammunition, developed by MKE under the “Effective, Simple and Affordable” concept, combines with the system’s high rate of fire to enable sustained engagement against threats.

The system’s advanced stabilisation capability also improves firing effectiveness by maintaining target tracking while the vessel is moving at sea.

Having previously destroyed a surface target during the DENİZKURDU-I exercise, the PİRANA loitering unmanned surface vehicle was controlled via a Bayraktar TB2 during TURNAs-2026 and destroyed its target using a 100 kg warhead.

With a speed exceeding 40 knots, an operational range of more than 200 nautical miles and a 100 kg warhead, PİRANA can operate in remotely controlled or autonomous modes thanks to its radio frequency (RF) and satellite communications (SATCOM) systems.

Its low radar cross-section design and high manoeuvrability reduce the risk of detection. PİRANA can be deployed individually or as part of a swarm. The system can be controlled over long distances via satellite communications and is designed for use in a variety of operational scenarios.
