“Hanwha Defense USA” (HDUSA) has been awarded a contract to supply prototypes of its K9MH (“K9 Mobile Howitzer”) self-propelled howitzers under the US Army’s new Mobile Tactical Cannon (MTC) programme.
Polygonjournal reports, citing “Hanwha”, that the contract initially calls for the rapid delivery of six MTC systems.
The contract also includes options for the procurement of an additional 12 systems.
In line with the US Army’s modernisation objectives and efforts to enhance long-range precision-strike capabilities, HDUSA will provide a technically advanced 155 mm artillery system that can be fielded in a short timeframe. The K9MH will be compatible with the primary artillery ammunition used by the US Army.
With more than 2,500 K9 self-propelled howitzers currently in service worldwide, “Hanwha” is well positioned to cooperate with the US Department of War in establishing high-volume production capabilities.
With the selection of the K9MH, the United States joins the group of allied countries already operating K9 self-propelled howitzers and integrated into “Hanwha’s” global industrial network and supply chain.
