ASELSAN Signaling System Controls Türkiye’s Fastest Metro

ASELSAN’s COBALT CL Driverless Metro Signaling System (GoA4) has been deployed on Gayrettepe–Istanbul Airport–Halkalı Metro Line, as President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan officially inaugurated the final section of the line. Spanning 69 kilometers and operating at speeds of up to 120 km/h, the metro line is longest and fastest in Türkiye. Controlled by ASELSAN’s indigenous signaling technology, it also marks a major milestone as the country’s first metro line to operate with a nationally developed signaling system.

Since entering service in 2023 on the first section of the metro line, COBALT CL has achieved an availability rate exceeding 99,96% over approximately 5,7 million kilometers of operation and enabled the safe and uninterrupted transportation of more than 30 million passengers. With the completion of the final section, ASELSAN has successfully deployed one of the world’s few fully automated driverless metro signalling systems capable of operating at speeds of up to 120 km/h, setting a new benchmark in urban rail transportation.

Developed by ASELSAN, COBALT CL is a Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) system that supports all Grades of Automation (GoA), including fully automated operations. Combining moving block technology, energy-efficient driving algorithms and reduced headways, the system enhances operational efficiency, passenger capacity and safety while reducing dependence on foreign technologies in critical transportation infrastructure.
