Raytheon awarded $590M for next-gen Navy jammer

Raytheon, an RTX business, has been awarded a $590 million follow-on production contract by the U.S. Navy for the Next Generation Jammer Mid-Band (NGJ-MB) system.

The NGJ-MB program is a joint development and production effort with the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and aims to enhance offensive electronic attack capabilities.

The contract covers the delivery of complete system shipsets, support equipment, spares, and non-recurring engineering support. The NGJ-MB system is designed to be deployed on the EA-18G Growler aircraft, providing advanced capabilities to counter radar threats, disrupt communications, and neutralize radio frequency targets.

Barbara Borgonovi, president of Naval Power at Raytheon, highlighted the importance of the system, stating, “NGJ-MB is a revolutionary offensive electronic attack system for the joint force that puts a critical combat capability in the hands of our Navy warfighters. We’re working with the U.S. Navy to ensure NGJ-MB provides the advanced electronic warfare solution needed as quickly as possible.”

The U.S. Navy and RAAF will employ the NGJ-MB system on their EA-18G Growlers to target advanced radar threats, communications, data links, and unconventional radio frequency threats. The jammer aims to reduce adversary targeting ranges, disrupt enemy kill chains, and provide support for kinetic weapon systems. It will also enable naval crews to engage effectively at extended ranges and attack multiple targets simultaneously using advanced jamming techniques.

Work under this contract will be carried out in several locations across the United States, including McKinney, Texas; Forest, Mississippi; El Segundo, California; and Fort Wayne, Indiana. The production and associated support will continue through 2028, providing the U.S. Navy and its allies with an enhanced tool for maintaining battlefield superiority in electronic warfare.
