IDEX & NAVDEX 2025 spotlight groundbreaking defence innovations

IDEX and NAVDEX 2025 have once again reaffirmed their status as the premier global platforms for unveiling the future of defence, showcasing innovations that are redefining modern security and military operations. From AI-driven battlefield communication and advanced surveillance systems to high-mobility combat platforms and next-generation weaponry, this year’s event highlights the relentless pursuit of technological superiority.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, this edition is organised by ADNEC Group in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence and Tawazun Council, this year’s edition marks the largest IDEX and NAVDEX since the event’s inception in 1993.

Among the standout developments, Electro Optic Systems (EOS) introduced the R500, a next-generation Remote Weapon System (RWS) that builds on the combat-proven R400. Designed for armoured vehicles and tactical platforms, the R500 integrates AI-driven targeting, high-elevation Counter-UAS capabilities, and multi-weapon adaptability. With the highest stowed ammunition capacity in its class and seamless integration of missiles and rockets, it enhances firepower and survivability in complex combat environments.

EDGE continued to expand its footprint in the defence sector, unveiling 46 new systems across land, air, naval, and electronic warfare domains. In aerial capabilities, the debut of the ANAVIA HT-750 unmanned heavy-lift aircraft and P145i aeronautical piston engine reinforced its leadership in aviation. On land, the HAVOC Robotic Combat Vehicle and AJBAN MK2 armoured variants introduced next-generation battlefield mobility and protection. The UAE-built FA-400 offshore patrol vessel made its first appearance in the naval sector, while advanced secure communications and electronic warfare solutions, including the KATIM X3M, SHADOW 3 C-UAS, and BORDER SHIELD surveillance system, demonstrated EDGE’s technological edge. Further extending its capabilities into space, FADA unveiled TACTICA, an AI-powered C4I system, alongside new radar and electro-optical advancements.

In the realm of loitering munitions and counter-drone warfare, Yugoimport introduced the Raven 145 and the Anti-Drone Jammer, each designed to enhance battlefield resilience. The Raven 145, a long-range loitering munition, delivers precision strikes with a 50 km range and an advanced homing system, capable of neutralising armoured vehicles, command posts, and drones. Complementing this, the Anti-Drone Jammer offers vital protection against unauthorised UAVs, disrupting control and GNSS signals across multiple frequency bands to safeguard military assets and critical infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Milkor South Africa presented the Milkor IPC, a high-speed, long-endurance maritime platform engineered for versatility and efficiency. Featuring a hydrofoil-assisted catamaran hull, it offers superior speed, fuel efficiency, and stability. With a command-and-control bridge, modular payload configurations, and onboard facilities for extended missions, the vessel reaches speeds of 50 knots with a 300-nautical-mile range, reinforcing its adaptability for a range of maritime operations.

TAG Dynamics also made a significant impact with its trio of battlefield solutions. The HIDNET-32 wireless network system enhances secure communication, ensuring mission-critical connectivity even in electronic warfare conditions. The ARX NS-II MRAP delivers superior crew protection with a spacious compartment for 10 personnel, a 360° rotating turret, and adaptable mission configurations for high-threat environments. Rounding out its innovations, the Agentic Guard Tower integrates AI-powered threat detection with remote weapon station capabilities, enabling real-time tracking and precision targeting of threats up to 2.5 km away.

ASELSAN reinforced its position as a leader in modern warfare solutions with advanced land and weapon systems. The ALKAR 100/81 and ALKAR 110/81 mortar systems offer unmatched fire support accuracy, while the ASAF 155 CCF, ASAF 155 MOFA, and ATOM 25 ABM smart munitions enhance strike precision in dynamic battlefield conditions. Additionally, the YENER 100-G ground-penetrating radar bolsters situational awareness by detecting hidden threats such as IEDs and mines.

Further strengthening armoured warfare capabilities, KNDS introduced the SHARD 120mm Armour-Piercing Fin Stabilised Discarding Sabot (APFSDS) round. Designed to penetrate modern main battle tanks with increased lethality and reduced barrel wear, the SHARD round ensures armoured units remain dominant in high-intensity combat scenarios.

As IDEX and NAVDEX 2025 unfold, these advancements underscore the event’s role in shaping the future of global defence. From land to sea and space, the latest breakthroughs in firepower, mobility, surveillance, and electronic warfare are setting new benchmarks in security and military effectiveness.
