Sweden orders more Black Hawk helicopters

The Swedish Defense Materiel Administration (FMV) has signed a contract for the acquisition of twelve additional Helicopter 16 units, known globally as the Sikorsky UH-60M Black Hawk.

Helicopter 16 has been a critical component of the Swedish Armed Forces since its initial acquisition in 2011, with an original order of fifteen units.

According to a press release from FMV, these helicopters have proven their versatility and reliability, particularly in international missions such as medical evacuation operations in Afghanistan.

“The procurement of additional helicopters is in line with the Supreme Commander’s military advice to the government and the Defense Commission’s report on strengthening Sweden’s defense capabilities as an ally,” stated Michael Stolpen, Unit Chief at FMV.

The contract will be executed through the U.S. Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program, which facilitates the sale of military equipment to allied nations. The U.S. Department of Defense approved the agreement in June, and deliveries to the Swedish Armed Forces will occur progressively over the coming years.

The Sikorsky UH-60M Black Hawk is renowned for its robustness and versatility, capable of performing various missions, including troop transport, medical evacuation, and logistical support. The additional units will enhance Sweden’s operational readiness and provide a significant boost to its overall defense strategy.
