Desan Shipyard completed a 12 month modernisation of the Slovenian Navy’s Project 10412 Svetlyak-class multi-purpose patrol vessel Triglav and handed it back to the service on 25 February – two months ahead of schedule, the shipbuilder announced on 26 February.

The Slovenian Ministry of Defence (MoD) selected three companies to modernise Triglav under a programme that took effect on 29 March 2024. Desan was awarded a contract for the first phase of the update programme, which included the maintenance, replacement, repair, and upgrade of ship systems. The second and third phases will be completed by Slovenian system integrator Panna Plus, which was selected for the upgrade of the command, control, communications, computers, and intelligence (C4I) systems; and Croatian shipyard Iskra Brodogradilište, which was awarded the rearmament – removal, adjustment, replacement, and installation – of the ship’s weapon systems.

The ship arrived at Desan Shipyard in May 2024. The three-phase modernisation included upgrades to the HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) system, replacement of the fire detection and suppression systems, and modifications to the electrical power distribution system. In addition, Desan designed and integrated an advanced platform control and monitoring system.

In addition to structural maintenance and repairs, the ship’s mast was upgraded, interior spaces were refurbished, and electronic system wiring was replaced. New consoles were manufactured and Phase 2 electronic systems were prepared for installation. Engineers also conducted a detailed structural analysis using 3D scanning and plate thickness measurements, leading to targeted reinforcement work.

Triglav was built by Almaz Shipyard in Saint Petersburg and commissioned in Slovenian service in 2010.
