Saab launches a new Deployment Set configuration for the Giraffe 1X radar that will be shown for the first time in public at DSEI 2023 defense exhibition to take place in London next week.
The new configuration has been crafted for effortless transport, swift relocation, and rapid operational readiness. These attributes are immensely valuable in modern battlefield scenarios and situations where air threats can emerge from any direction, posing a genuine danger to stationary installations.
Presenting the Giraffe 1X Deployment Set—an easily deployable, compact, and robust 3D AESA radar driven by software. This lightweight radar boasts a small footprint while delivering a substantial search volume spanning 75 kilometers. These characteristics render it exceptionally suitable for urgent operations that come with limited options. The Giraffe 1X Deployment Set emerges as a versatile solution suited for both mobile and fixed setups.
Carl-Johan Bergholm, head of Saab’s business area Surveillance, emphasizes, said: “The Giraffe 1X Deployment Set embodies a highly deployable capability designed to furnish immediate air situational awareness upon deployment. We consistently push the boundaries of time, enabling operational forces to respond effectively.”
Equipped with Giraffe 1X, commanders gain access to high-quality air defense target data, drone detection capabilities for countering Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), and the ability to sense and provide warnings for rockets, artillery, and mortar threats. Moreover, Giraffe 1X is equipped with a continuous stream of software upgrades, ensuring its preparedness to tackle emerging threats.
